DECEMBER 2004/JANUARY 2005
A number
of really great changes have been happening with
the start of the new year. I've become a full
member of the VOLTAIRE CONSORT space in Ocean
Beach and plan on using it as a photography studio
and exhibition space for art shows.
You may remember it as the venue of last year's THIS
IS NOT A PHOTOGRAPH: The Sound and Fury of San Diego
Sonic Photography 1967-2003 show,
but it is also perhaps one of San Diego's most exquisite
hubs for underground music and other experimental
art activities in recent memory. One of
the events I have been working on curating has been
a follow-up to last year's
all-band photography TINAP show. The first one was
such a glowing success, that I'd hate to stop now,
and there were still a few excellent photographers
that were not able to participate last year that
are more likely to participate
this time around. In an effort to take on more than
I can ever possibly handle on my own, I've expanded
to allow photos taken outside of San
Diego as well, so keep this in mind. Also, it's going
to be a whole new crop
of band photographers so that nothing is repeated.
If you've ever taken any photos of bands that you
can honestly say you're proud of, or know
of any good band photographers (locally or nationally)
who deserve a spotlight please don't hesitate to
get in touch (motleywoo@yahoo.com). To mark this
celebratory moment in my photographic canon, throughout
the month of February I am offering to do a FREE
PHOTO SHOOT (minus expenses and on approval,
of course) with any band or artist who wishes it.
I don't get this generous very often so please SEIZE
THE DAY before I change my fickle mind.
OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2004
Apologies to those who have been
checking this website lately and have come up dissapointed.
There have been very few updates (1) as a result of my moving into a new
place and
(2) getting rid of my Macintosh computer. The two
coincide because my new room is too small to store a regular desktop computer.
So, in a bold and
bastardly attempt to micronize my already thimble-size
life, I plan on getting an i-pod and perhaps some kind of laptop so I can
go to coffee
shops and look important. The whole idea of becoming
digital has repulsed me for countless years, but if I figured that if I
don't do some rennovating
soon, I will never have a ghost of a chance to keep
up with the perpetual growth rate of modern technology. Don't worry, I
don't think I'll ever
rid myself completely of film cameras. But I am working
toward attaining more digital cameras. Some of my major strengths in photography
have been
framing and composition with an experimental edge
and this will not end simply because I cross over to digital. In fact,
I see it as a whole new
avenue of experimentation and have taken a liking
to even the lowest of digitized resolution. A
somewhat discouraging factor in the updating of this
website has been that freewebs.com has been deleting
certain profane words (when did "girls" become
a bad word?) or main chunks of text such as the lower
half of this news section. I guess the TENDER
BUTTONS album art
drawings was a little too
much for someone
but I suppose that is what you get when you don't
pay for a host or domain name. So all the news is
lost because I
didn't back it up, but it doesn't
really matter anyway. There are a few new reviews
up of albums by LAIBACH and COMETS
ON FIRE and I'll be posting those HOT SNAKES and
other photos soon.
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2004
Got some new press
photos up of the DMONSTRATIONS and the CASTANETS in the press and media photo archive for all to view. I've also recently
taken some HOT SNAKES
press photos that I'll be posting soon. All
of these bands are currently on tour so go out and support them because they
all have great new records out.JUNE/JULY 2004
Those of you in the San Diego
area who plan on going to The San Diego County Fair in
Del Mar this year should check out the art exhibits for my postcard of THE DEAD C.
It won "Best In Class" for offset printing quality
and was printed by my good buddy WILLIAM RIVERA, who also has a pin-on button business called FACTORY BUTTONS.

They're
pretty, they're practical, and now they're in abundance. Yes, postcards
of THE DEAD C and HOT SNAKES have
arrived. I'm completely enamored by the
new "postcard" word
logo on the back of these because it's
got a quill threading through the
letters.
It's super
slick! So to celebrate this monumental
moment in postcard history, I'm selling the
pair for a mere $1 (PPD). But
hurry, this offer ends
on Mayday,
2010 or
while supplies last.
MARCH/APRIL 2004
KILL ME TOMORROW's The Garbageman and the is finally out on GSL and
comes packaged complete with a DVD collecting
four music videos,
each
with a completely different stylistic approach.
The one for "Flesh Siren" is
animated in a similar style to the videos
on The Power of Salad and Milkshakes and actually uses fragments of photos that I took (see the press and media archive to view these). Also, one of the greatest photographic compliments I have ever recieved has been when K8 WINCE composed an original painting that interprets one of my photos of KILL ME TOMORROW. It reminded K8 of
the opening scene in "Resovoir Dogs" when
Tarantino's pack of gangsters are walking
down the street.
At any rate, you
can find this painting
along with
some creative bloodsplatter on the back
cover of the album.
More rank images of dirty rock and rollers are headed your way! Label websites
like Mental Telemetry and Deathbomb Arc have given new homes to my photos of SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE and TENDER BUTTONS, respectively. The new issues of Skyscraper and Rockpile will print photos of VAZ and KILL ME TOMORROW, respectively. And the new 31G DVD, "This is Circumstantial Evidence," features
a photo I took of CATTLE DECAPITATION, retrospectively. Also, in the early days of April, the Gold Standard Laboratories website is going to show a few of my photos of TETSUNORI, VAZ and/or YEAR FUTURE. The VAZ ones are the same ones that will appear in Skyscraper (or elsewhere on the TE website), and the TETSUNORI one is the same as the one shown below this text, but the YEAR FUTURE pic is pretty much exclusive thus far to the GSL web. So hit it or quit it!
FEBRUARY 2004
Throughout the month of February,
I'm showing mostly non-band related photogr
